Nowadays, however, the public seems to have abandoned the expectation that politicians tell the truth. President Obama, for example, included a clear call for a public option in his healthcare reform proposal during the 2008 presidential campaign. It’s still on his website. And yet: “I didn’t campaign on the public option,” he said in late 2009.

Weiner lied. But it wasn’t about policy or something important like war. Remember Libya? We were going to “move quickly to save [civilian] lives.” It was going to be “this limited action, limited both in time and scope.” That was March. Now we’re trying to kill Kadaffi.

And, to Weiner’s credit, he didn’t lie long. A week. When he ‘fessed up, he did it like a man: took questions from the press, accepted responsibility, volunteered dirty deeds we didn’t know about.

It’s certainly not “we DID find the WMDs,” a la Bush-Cheney. Who, remember, did not resign.

I would love to live in a country in which lying to the public was cause for resignation. It sure would make for a lot of vacancies in government.

But we don’t-and it seems weird to hold a sexter to a higher standard than a warmongering mass murderer.

Yeah, I have a few Asks about the Weinergate thing, and this is basically my response. I’d be a little more disgusted if it wasn’t in the context of most politicians screwing around on their wives and spending taxpayer dollars on escorts. A tweeted dick pic? Whatevs.

Now I am glad that I didn’t go to the Wisconsin Democratic Convention as Anthony Weiner, the guy I really wanted to hear speak cancelled his appearance. I just started posting this because I wanted to make the obligatory jokes about “pulling out” and about how cancelling was a dick move. Now I decided that it isn’t even worth it. Hope everyone that attended still had a good time and is all primed for the recalls next month.

Let me ask a serious question, if straight people insist that it’s okay to be straight, then why do they keep throwing it in our faces. I mean, seriously, I am so damn tired of straights getting all up in my face with their heterosexuality! “Oh yeah, I fucked a woman last night!” “This girl totally sucked my cock!” Obviously they know it’s wrong, or else they wouldn’t try so hard to justify their immoral lifestyle. Him and Debbie Wasserman Schultz. A month or so ago I wanted to go. Then I decided to skip it, but now I REALLLLLY want to go. Debbie Wasserman Schultz is a good get, Chair of the DNC and just a great all-around speaker, her comments about Sarah Palin during the 2008 election were awesome and hit the nail on the head. But, Anthony Weiner? The dude is money every time he opens his mouth. If you don’t know who he is check the video:

Firefly?!?

For some reason I started watching Firefly on Netflix tonight. Why didn’t anyone tell me about this? I can see how I missed the boat on this show, this type of show (science fiction/space fantasy) usually isn’t my thing. I mean, Star Wars is decent but I don’t go all nuts for it. This show is cheesy, like most of the genre. The theme song is absolutely ridiculous, super-cheesy country. Under no circumstances should this show be good, yet it is. The characters are interesting and the actors are decent. Joss Whedon did a great job fleshing out these characters and this world in a very short time. Right from the 2 hour pilot you have a good idea of what is going on and what everyone is about. It is formulaic to a point but different at the same time. At the same time there is comedy, action, and suspense. Just a really good show. Nathan Fillion is the bomb. He was great in Dr. Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog and on the Nerdist podcast. Unfortunately the show didn’t last long.

It doesn’t add up — in fact, it would probably make the deficit bigger not smaller. And far from representing some kind of sacrifice of political interests in the service of the greater good, it’s a right-wing wish-list on steroids: sharp tax cuts for corporations and the rich, savage cuts in aid to the poor, and a gratuitous privatization of Medicare.
